I can't reconcile these results, which show the preponderance of eukaryote introns in the 1000s of bases size range, with measures that the preponderance of insect and nematode introns are less than 100 bp.

Dipterans like the fruitfly have lost introns compared to other insects and arthropods, making the fruitfly somewhat of an outlier in gene structure.
