The lipid-phase is the bottom fraction from the chloroform:methanol extraction of the cells. The inter-phase contains cell debris and proteins, and the TCA fraction contains proteins from precipitation of the aqueous fraction. The ethanol fraction contains carbohydrates from the remaining aqueous fraction in 5 volumes of ice-cold ethanol incubated at -20°C over night. The remaining water-soluble fraction contains unused 14C-glucose. |
