The MurD substrate UDP-Mur-NAc-L-Alanine is shown in blue, the product UDP-Mur-NAc-L-Alanine-D-Glutamate
in orange, adenosine 5'-diphosphate in green. Only positions that are conserved within
a group and different between groups are shown. Red residues are positions in MurD
that have a non-conservative substitution in MurE; black residues indicate positions
at which conservative substitutions are located (residues are listed in Table 3).
